Why join a CSA?

Community Supported Agriculture programs have existed for many years and continue to grow in popularity.  From a consumer's perspective joining a CSA has many benefits, including:

*Access to local produce and the farmers who grow it

*Your food dollars stay in the community and help it thrive

*You are introduced to new foods, and new ways of preparing them

*Our CSA members get a 5% discount for shopping with us at the market, as well as access to pick-your-own opportunities and bulk prices

*A chance to socialize with other members as well as your farmers at our potlucks and work parties, to learn more about each other and the way your food is grown

For the farmer there is the same opportunity for community building. Getting to know the people you grow for makes the growing that much more personal and meaningful.  A CSA also provides some stability for the farm in the form of a guaranteed outlet for produce in the summer and income in the winter when a lot of the purchasing for the farm happens, but little money is coming in.

We are interested in growing community as well as fruits and veggies. When possible, we will host farm events such as work parties, potlucks and preservation days as the need arises out of a big harvest or large project.

We hope that this is a journey that you’d like to take with us.  As a CSA member you will be sharing our successes and our failures through the next season.  We appreciate your faith and support, and look forward to getting to know you better.

Our CSA is a “free choice” model. Which items are available each week is based on what needs to be harvested, with an attempt to keep the shares varied week to week. The CSA receives new items before they go to market. Bulk rates and pick your own opportunities will be sent out in the weekly emails as they arise.

Vermont Farm Share Program

Our farm participates in the Vermont Farm Share Program. This program subsidizes CSA shares for our neighbors who otherwise could not afford to join our CSA.

Through the program, Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont (NOFA-VT) will match each dollar our farm raises to offer reduced rates to income-eligible individuals and families.

Every cent donated goes directly towards the cost of a share. Any size donation helps.

Contributions are tax-deductible if made directly to NOFA-VT. NOFA-VT will match the donation, and grant it back to our farm.

To make a tax-deductible contribution, make checks payable to NOFA-VT and write Lost Barn Farm in the check memo and mail them to NOFA-VT, Farm Share Fund, PO Box 697, Richmond VT 05477. Contributions can also be made online. If donating online select “Farm Share Fund” from the Campaign drop down menu and write “Lost Barn Farm” in the Donor Notes.

Contributions through NOFA-VT can be made anonymously if that is your preference. Contributions can also be made to the Farm Share Fund without directing them to Lost Barn Farm.

Non-tax-deductible contributions can be made directly to Lost Barn Farm.

For the 2023 season, Lost Barn Farm is attempting to raise $1270 to subsidize the following shares: 5 full shares, 5 half shares, 2 egg shares and 5 Fall shares. Please consider helping us reach this goal.

If you have questions, feel free to contact Marisa at farmermarisa@gmail.com or Johanna Doren the Local Food Access Coordinator at NOFA-VT at johanna@nofavt.org
